2030. 1 hour. (1;1) Focus on factors contributing to the development of air power from the earliest beginnings through two world wars; the evolution of air power concepts and doctrine; and an assessment of communicative skills.
2040. 1 hour. (1;1) Focus on concepts preparatory to developing officer leadership skills: ethics and values, group problem solving, leadership methods, and communications.
2920. Cooperative Education in Aerospace Studies. 1-3 hours. Supervised work in a job directly related to the student's major, professional field of study or career objective. 3310-3320. Air Force Leadership/Management. 4 hours each. (3;1) Study of leadership and quality management fundamentals, professional knowledge, leadership ethics and communication skills required of an Air Force officer. Case studies are used to examine Air Force leadership and management situations as a means of demonstrating and exercising practical application of the concepts being studied.

4310-4320. National Security Forces in Contemporary American Society. 4 hours each. (3;1) Examines the need for national security, analyzes the evolution and formulation of the American defense policy, strategy, and joint doctrine; investigates the methods for managing conflict; and overview of regional security, arms control and terrorism. Special topics of interest focus on the military as a profession, officership, the military justice system, and current issues affecting military professionalism.

0180. Leadership Laboratory. 1 hour. (0;3) Practical laboratory of applied leadership and skills. Student-planned, -organized and -conducted training, oriented toward leadership development. Laboratory topics include marksmanship, small unit tactics, multi-tiered programs focused on individual skill levels. Uniform and equipment provided, no fee. May be repeated for credit.
1141. Foundations of Officership. 1 hour. Introduction to issues and competencies central to a commissioned officer's responsibilities. Establishes a framework for understanding offership, leadership and Army values. Addresses "life skills" including fitness and time management. Designed to support recruiting and retention of cadets by giving them accurate insight into the Army profession and the officer's role within the Army. Requires concurrent enrollment in MILS 0180 leadership lab and participation in weekly physical fitness training, plus optional participation in a weekend field training exercise.
1142. Basic Leadership. 1 hour. Application of principles of leadership through participation in physically and mentally challenging exercises with upper division ROTC students. Focuses on communication skills, organizational ethics, and study and time management techniques. Requires concurrent enrollment in MILS 0180 leadership lab and mandatory participation in weekly physical fitness training, plus optional participation in a weekend field training exercise.
2248. Evolution of Contemporary Military Strategy. 2 hours. Review of contemporary military conflicts. Selected battles from World War II, Korea, Vietnam and the Yom Kippur War are examined for impact upon current U.S. military doctrine, strategy and weapons systems. All military science students must enroll or participate in MILS 0180 concurrently with this course unless exception is given by the PMS [Professor of Military Science].
2291. Conference Course. 2 hours. Independent study designed to supplement the military science curricula by a student's concentrated study in a narrower field of military skill or subject matter. May be repeated for credit. Prerequisite(s): permission of the PMS [Professor of Military Science].
2343. Camp Challenge. 3 hours. A rigorous six-week summer camp conducted at an Army post, similar to Army basic training. No military obligation incurred. Completion of MILS 2343 qualifies a student for entry into the Advanced Course. Three different cycles offered during the summer, but spaces are limited by the Army. Candidates can apply for a space any time during the school year prior to the summer. Open only to students who have not taken all four of MILS 1241, 1242, 2351 and 2352, and who pass an ROTC physical examination. P/F grade only.
2251. Individual Leadership Studies. 2 hours. Students identify successful leadership characteristics through observation
of others and self through discovery learning. Students participate in numerous exercises to develop problem solving and
critical thinking skills and apply communication, feedback and conflict resolution skills. Students record observed leadership traits in
dimensional leadership journal and discuss observations in a small group environment. Requires concurrent enrollment in MILS 0180 and mandatory participation in weekly physical fitness training, plus optional participation in a weekend field training exercise.
2252. Leadership and Teamwork. 2 hours. Builds on MILS 2251 learning objectives and focuses on team building, influencing, communicating, decision-making, creative problem solving, planning and organizational skills through direct learning experiences. Experiential learning activities are designed to challenge the cadet's current beliefs, knowledge and skills. Introduces the student to individual and team aspects of military tactics in small unit operations. Requires concurrent enrollment in MILS 0180 leadership lab and mandatory participation in weekly physical fitness training, plus optional participation in a weekend field training exercise.
3341. Leadership and Problem Solving. 3 hours. Introduction to principles of physical fitness and healthy lifestyles in order to develop a personal physical fitness regimen while enrolled in the program. Students are also introduced to the Leader Development Program, which is used to evaluate their performance and provide direct feedback on their leadership abilities. The majority of the course work revolves around students learning to plan and conduct individual and small unit training while applying reasoning and problem-solving techniques. Requires concurrent enrollment in MILS 0180 mandatory. Prerequisite(s): interview/permission of PMS [Professor of Military Science].
3342. Leadership and Ethics. 3 hours. Examines the role that communications, values and ethics play in effective leadership. Ethical decision-making, consideration of others and a survery of Army leadership doctrine. Students continue learning through the Leader Development Program to refine leadership abilities and improve oral and written communication skills. Requires concurrent enrollment in MILS 0180 mandatory. Prerequisite(s): interview/permission of PMS [Professor of Military Science].
3443. Summer Field Training. 4 hours. Six-week off-campus field training course stressing the practical application of leadership management, with emphasis on tactical and technical military field skills.
3495. Nursing Advanced Summer Training. 4 hours. Seven-week off-campus internship at a major U.S. Army hospital for ROTC nursing students. A nursing practicum with the focus on providing the student with hands-on experience which integrates clinical, interpersonal and leadership knowledge and skills. Practical experience and familiarization with Army nursing in a variety of clinical tasks in the areas of medical-surgical nursing, pediatrics, obstetrics, and, in some cases, intensive care in ICUs. May be used for partial credit for NURS courses with prior approval of Dean of Nursing. Prerequisite(s): completion of the junior year of a baccalaureate nursing program and consent of the PMS [Professor of Military Science].
4341. Leadership and Management. 3 hours. Students continue to refine the knowledge and skills necessary to be an effective Army officer. Designed to assess the student's ability in planning and executing complex operations, operating as a member of a staff and mentory subordinates. Students are instructed in the army's training management system, staff coordination and proper counseling techniques. The end state of the semester is for the student to have confidence in his or her skills and abilities as a future leader when he or she transitions from cadet to lieutenant in the Army. Requires concurrent enrollment in MILS 0180 mandatory. Prerequisite(s) interview/permission of PMS [Professor of Military Science].
4342. Officership. 3 hours. Examination of the ethical standards, professional roles and responsibilities behind offership. Includes case study analysis of military law and practical exercises on establishing an ethical command climate. Students must complete a semester-long Senior Leadership Project that requires them to plan, organize and demonstrate their leadership skills. Following completion of this course students are commissioned as second lieutenants in the Army, Army Reserve or Army National Guard. Requires concurrent enrollment in MILS 0180 mandatory. 4391. Conference Course. 3 hours. Independent study on an individual basis on current topics in military science.
